large primary school serves an area where socio-economic
circumstances are well below what is expected nationally. The
proportion of children eligible for free school meals is well
above average.
Teaching and learning are good. Good use is
made of ‘talk partners’ and group work so that pupils can learn
together and develop their speaking and listening skills which
they use with increasing confidence.
There is a strong programme of phonics teaching
which has a positive impact on pupils’ reading throughout
school.
