The Power Maths KS2 programme teaches
both the objectives of the maths framework and also embeds
co-operative learning strategies. It enables teachers to structure
activities so that all students will discuss, debate and wrestle
with ideas, concepts and skills until they thoroughly understand
them.
Our resources and training will enable teachers to put in place a
‘collaborative learning’ structure which organises the classroom so
that children care about each other, take responsibility for each
other and learn to appreciate each other. |

whiteboard
• Incorporates challenges for those more gifted children |
Each daily structured lesson plan for PowerMaths has: |
Direct Instruction
The opportunity to teach new skills. As you demonstrate
students answer questions and talk about what they observe.
Guided Practice
Once the students have seen you demonstrate the new learning
and have heard your explanation, they need time to find
their feet with it. They practise their new learning with a
partner and/or team mates.
Team Huddle
Team Huddle gives them time to test out what they think they
know within the safety of the partnership and team. It is
the partner and the team’s responsibility to ensure that
everyone in the team understands what has been taught. |
Team Mastery
Team members solve problems independently. They then check
with their team mates to see if they have the same answer
and explain their thinking to each other.
Individual Check
Here the individual student is assessed rather than the
teams.
Team Recognition
The emphasis on the team element is that when the team is
functioning well, every person in the team succeeds. That is
why it is the team that is rewarded and not individuals |
